The development's namesake is Thomas Evans Haile, a South Carolina Sea Island Cotton planter who developed a plantation on the site in 1854. It is considered one of the Gainesville area's most desirable communities.
Haile Village Center is the neighborhood center within the development and offers shopping convenience. This sets it apart from many other neighborhood communities in the area.
Haile Plantation is also home to a weekly farmer’s market and an annual Oktoberfest.
